TRENDS IN THE US JOB MARKET: BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS PROVIDES AN INSIDER’S LOOK

Ryan Farrell will provide an overview of the newly released 2020-2030 employment projections from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. He will be joined by a colleague from the Employment Projections office. They will look at BLS data on projected federal employment and how to access this and other employment projections data. Additionally, they will talk about the different roles and programs within BLS and their experience with the federal hiring process.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this workshop participants will be able to

1. Generally describe key trends in US employment projects for the period 2020-2030, including those related to hiring for the US federal government.

2. State the mission and key programs of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics BLS).

3. Identify selected employment opportunities at BLS and what makes for a competitive applicant for these positions.
